I’m very fortunate that my family gets on really well with my sister in laws family. A couple of weekend’s ago, I was invited to celebrate my sister-in-law’s Dad’s 60th birthday, which was lovely to celebrate with a big family. Having visited the Rolling Stones exhibit at Saatchi Gallery, where we wandered through all the glitzy costumes, drool-worthy guitars and a 3D performance of the Stones at Hyde Park, we worked up quite the appetite. Gary had picked an absolute gem for his birthday meal…
Rabbit, Kings Road, London is focusing on all the good things in life, Seasonal British, Wild & Foraged produce to deliver some darn tasty food, just check out the menu below…
Our meal started in a fabulous way of a plate of mouthfuls of gorgeousness. From clockwise – Mushroom Marmite Eclair with Confit Egg Yolk, Black Cuttlefish Cracker, Dulse (seaweed), Keta (salmon) and Dill, Smoked Pork Loin with Lemon and Fennel and Chickpea Pillow, Peas, Ricotta and Rocket. Each little mouthful was beautifully balanced with layers of flavours and textures that were just sublime.
The first of the three sharing plates we had coming our was the Sweet Cured Cod, Fennel, Lime Mayo and Dill. Lighter than gravlax and the freshness of the fish sings through and matched perfectly with the zesty tang from the lime and the crisp aniseed fennel with the silk fish. A beautiful spring dish.
The plates kept on coming! Lamb Chips, Lemon, Parsley, Harissa, meltingly tender shredded lamb breaded and fried to a crisp exterior to mop up the sweet, warming harissa sauce. Another dish that didn’t last too long!
My family has this super game, that when I’m queuing up my camera to take a picture of a tasty plate of food as quickly as I can so I can tuck in and they like to stick their mitts in the way of my shot. So below is my brother, sister in law and mum’s fingers wanting some limelight. I have even had random receipts, money, lip balm placed on my food before I can take pictures in the past. Such a fun game. So fun.
One of my favourite dishes was the Grilled Sussex Asparagus, 62° Egg, Black Pudding, Toasted Almonds. There isn’t anything more perfect in the world than piercing the surface of an egg yolk only for the golden sunshine pouring out. Moped up with the lightly charred spears of asparagus and nuggets of rich black pudding. Delicious.
And the fun game continued to the main course…
For the main course was the beyond beautiful roast plate of Roast Sussex Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Vegetables, Smoked Potatoes, Mushrooms Duxelles and Horseradish Curd. That’s right, how amazing does that sound?!?! The smoked potatoes were a revelation and packed such a punch and stood up against the heavy hitter flavours of the horseradish and the rich earthy duxelles without overpowering the delicate silky perfectly cooked flavoursome beef. You would think after all this food there wouldn’t be any room to finish off all the food but there were only clean plates around.
We finished that magnificent feast with a couple of nuggets of Chocolate Honeycomb Crunchy with creamy mascarpone and a touch of lime zest. Just the perfect amount of sweetness and bitterness from the chocolate. Leaving the whole table with very satisfied and slightly food coma smiles.
Why not hop down to Kings Road and sample some of the delights at Rabbit and allow yourself to fall in love and fall down the rabbit hole of treats.
