Breakfast at Duck and Waffle, London – Review

I fall in love very quickly and it becomes an unwavering love that means I will cross-country to be with my love again. Sadly I’m not talking about a tall dark handsome man who sweeps me off my feet. No, but a restaurant. Not just any restaurant, though, come on I can be choosy when it comes to my heart.  But the ultra-sexy Duck and Waffle perched in the clouds on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower.  This wasn’t my first time. Back in February, last year, I went with my Scoff Saturday girls and ploughed through the food and cocktail menu.

Since then I have been drooling over twitter and Instagram pictures of the daily specials, Dosants and long-time favourites and dreaming of the day when I can return to try such delights again.

That day was Saturday. The time 9 am. The fellow dinners, three foodies and family members. And we couldn’t wait till our food came and when it did……

It’s fair to say my handsome brother was very impressed with the Ox Cheek Benedict, with 63 degree hen eggs, hollandaise and sriracha. I mean that is one damn sexy plate of food. I tried some of the ox cheeks and it was meltingly tender. One look and it just fell apart like a girl meeting Ryan Gosling on the street.

I went for the Toasted PBJ and there was no option to Fat Boy it. A thick wedge of toasted brioche spread liberally with creamy peanut butter, strawberry jam, fresh banana slices all with a glorious crown of a perfectly runny fried duck egg and maple glazed bacon. Say What??? It was bloody delicious and the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. Whenever asked in life with you want to go Fat Boy the answer is always Yes. Yes, I do.

My sister in law went for the Colombian Eggs with avocado, tomato, spring onions and grilled chorizo. Normally she leaves a little leftover for my brother to hoover up the scraps. Unlucky boyo as it didn’t hang around for too long. Blinked and it was gone.

My cousin went for a signature dish and namesake Duck and Waffles. I can honestly say that this dish single-handedly made me get over my egg aversion and now a fully-fledged egg fan. Of course, it helps when the egg is a beautiful runny duck egg balanced on the crispy tender confit duck leg, sitting on cloud waffle with lashings of mustard maple syrup. Honestly, things that dreams are made of.  I dream of this bad boy.

With super sexy food like this, you can’t help but feel a spring in your step for the rest of your day. I love Duck and Waffle so much that after I’ve just been I want to go back again and pine over the food and views until the next time.  I mean it’s the perfect place for a restaurant with a massive gherkin right next door….

Gather up friends, family and loved ones and I can promise you that you will fall in love with Duck and Waffle too. You’ll also find yourself dreaming of bbq spiced pig ears and ox cheek doughnuts. I promise.
