Zara’s Chocolates, Bristol – Review

With the weather having a nip in the air, I went on a hunt for the best hot chocolate in Bristol. The hunt was quickly over with one stop to Zara’s Chocolates. If you’ve been following my Instagram for a while you would have seen Zara’s wonderful chocolate bars popping up from time to time on my feed. Because I’m a huge fan girl of these Bristol beauts. Zara made personalised bars for me to take to Valencia for my family and friends to celebrate my 30th. In 2018, Zara took the step to opening up a new store, just down the road on North Street from her original shop, making more room for bigger chocolate workshops for truffle making and learning how to temper chocolate. As well as more space for chocolate making and importantly a new hot chocolate bar area.

I signed up for Zara’s kickstarter for the new shop and selected the Hot Chocolate Flight for Two reward, which I took my dear friend Carly of Bleary Eyed Baker to share in the delicious hot chocolate joy. We got to chose three different hot chocolates to try in those gorgeous handmade mugs, with the added treats of homemade marshmallows and bites of Zara’s chocolates.

Want to see what I ordered?

66% Brazil Hot Chocolate

A deep rich hot chocolate with a hint of smokiness and fruity flavours from the cocoa beans. The richness was perfect with the homemade marshmallows dunked in.

Tahini Tempter

Ghanaian Milk Chocolate with Tahini paste with sesame seed brittle on the side. I loved the savoury note from the tahini and the earthy nutty flavour with the sweetness of the brittle.

Dark Chocolate Crush

Dark Chocolate from Madagascar with homemade salted caramel to add in.  Now doesn’t that sound suitably indulgent? Of course you could add a spoonful at a time, OR you can add it all like I did and live your best life in a salted caramel heaven.

I couldn’t pick my favourite of the three, as they all had different flavours and textures with the add ins, which just means I will definitely have to return many times to work through the long list of delicious hot chocolates. The Zara’s Affogato, Zara’s Salted Caramel Ice Cream drowned in a shot of chocspresso, is calling to me….

How do you like to top your hot chocolate? Marshmallows? Cream? More Chocolate?
