It’s no secret when I find a place I absolutely love, I will return time and time again whilst becoming a total fangirl for the restaurant amongst my friends or anyone who will listen to me really. That’s no different for the superb opening of COR restaurant, on North Street in Bristol. In a couple of months, I’ve already been three times and frankly, that’s not nearly enough. The new venture of Mark Chapman, previously head chef of another of my favourite Bristol restaurants, Gambas, with his wife Karen, opened in October 2022 and already received a Michelin Bib Gourmand, you know you’re in for something rather special. The setting is the perfect mix of casual and special, for intimate dinners and a relaxing dinner with friends all tucking into plates together.
I’ve been with vegetarians and happily had plentiful options to leave rather full as well as dishes that would satisfy the meatiest of meat eaters. The dishes have clean deep flavours allowing the quality of the ingredients to really shine through. You will want to capture every single drop of sauce, velouté or browned butter from each dish, mopping it up with bread. Also, a top tip is ordering the special savoury canelé not one per table but one each, trust me, you won’t regret it as they are completely out of this world and will never want to share after the first mouthful.
Below are the dishes I’ve tried from their seasonal menu, which is ever-changing so you need to get yourselves down for a meal asap, I know I will be for sure. The restaurant keeps the window seats free for walk-ins, so worth popping in if you’re in the area and the bookings are all full.
