Adelina Yard, Bristol – Review

Do you have a visit list of places you fancy trying out? No, just me?? Well, recently I got to try out one of these coveted places from my list. Adelina Yard, Bristol is nestled in on the harbour edge, which means of a glorious Summers day with the sunlight streaming in, the odd paddleboarder floating past, makes it an ideal setting for a special meal.

I was dining with my two foodie friends Eliza and Beth, as it was a special meal for us, we decided on the tasting menu which after trying all the dishes, I don’t know how I would have been able to pick out one dish only for each course. What I like about a tasting menu, I think it makes you a bit braver as to what to try as the decision is placed in the chef’s hands, as well as an opportunity to try some you wouldn’t have normally picked for yourself.

Amuse Bouche

Love receiving a surprise amuse-bouche before a meal, as it sets the tone as to what to expect for the rest of the meal. And from a taste of these ones, we knew we were in for an absolute treat. Parmesan Muffin with Parmesan Custard, Corn Cracker with Crab Bisque Jelly and Corn Mousse and Chicken Liver Pate with Shaved Smoked Ox Heart. A beautiful mix of flavours and textures to really get the meal swinging.

Moving on to the actual start of the tasting menu and loved that each dish had clean, fresh flavours with contrasting textures, that meant I didn’t want any of the dishes to come to an end.

Italian Tomatoes, Charred Watermelon, Goats’ Curd, Kaniwa, Fresh Edible Flowers and Red Pepper Tuile

Sea Bream Ceviche, Orange, Radish, Sesame and Coriander

Aged Beef Fillet, Burrata, Ponzu, Shaved Smoked Ox Heart

Wild Turbot, Coco de Paimpol, Girolles, Runner Beans and Mushroom Foam

Iberico Pork, Crispy Jowl and Copa, Turnips (Pan Fried and Crispy Cake) and Burnt Apple

Black Fig, Chia Seed with Honey Truffle Ice Cream

Roast Peach, Honey Roast Peach Sorbet, Verjus and Lavendar Shard

Petit Fours

To close out a perfect meal that I will remember for a long, long time, a plate of perfect petit fours. Blood Orange Pate de Fruit, Salted Caramel Chocolate and Raspberry and White Chocolate Macaron. Was a surprise we could even manage the petit fours after all of those wonderful dishes, but in fact, they were the right size to fill us up but not left hungry by any means.

It was a truly amazing meal which the flavour combinations, the sticky Iberico pork and smoked ox heart will stay with me for a long time. With special friends, to share such wonderful dishes, you need to visit to experience it for yourself and trust me, go for the tasting menu! adelinayard.com
