13 London Dessert Spots You Have To Try – Review

Looking for the most Instagrammable places in London to get your sugar hit? This ultimate guide to where to eat in London has got you covered! Here are 13 London Dessert Spots You Have To Try! From golden covered eclairs to wheel cakes to gelato, there’s something for everyone.  I would recommend using my checklist at the bottom of this post to tick off when you have conquered this sugar mountain!

Crème London

Big gooey cookies straight from the oven. I went for the White Chocolate and Miso Cookie, just the right level of savouriness to balance out the sweetness from the chocolate, and my cousin had the super-rich Double Chocolate cookie. If you’re a fan of the thin crisp cookies, these aren’t for you, these are big and cakey with a doughy centre with all the gooey chunks.

What better way to pair with cookies then with S’mores Hot Chocolate topped with Toasted Marshmallows, perfect for the colder weather.

Dominque Ansel

Famed for the Cronut, there is so much more to this bakery. In the Summer season, special market place tarts are made to showcase the freshest fruit in season. I tried the  Earl Grey and Italian Black Fig Tart. Buttery crisp short pastry, the home to gently perfumed tea cream, with a crown of the most perfect slices of figs.

Or the Victoria Slice – a Vanilla infused mascarpone cream, raspberry gelee, basil mousse, a light almond sponge cake and coated with the thinnest white chocolate coating. Almost too pretty to eat in front of the floral wall…almost, who am I kidding, there wasn’t a crumb spare!

Bake, Chinatown

Taiyaki, known as baked sea bream in Japanese, but don’t worry it doesn’t actually contain any fish! Just the shape of the bream is used to make these delicious waffles. Filled with a host of fillings like red bean paste, vanilla custard or as a tail alone to be filled with matcha ice cream. I went for the Nutella, of course, crispy outer of the waffle to the fluffy middle with its oozy Nutella puddle. Great as a warm-up to the other great food on offer in Chinatown and Soho.

Yolkin

Ice Cream. Great. Macarons. Great. Ice Cream Sandwiches with Macarons. Fantastic! With popular flavours like Red Velvet, Fruit Loops Cereal, S’mores, Chocolate Brownies as well as Southern Asian flavours like White Rabbit Candy, Egg Tart and Durian ice creams all sandwiched between crisp and chewy macarons in vibrant colours. You can catch some special macarons too, like super cute pandas and rats for Chinese New Year or dumpling shaped to celebrate Natation Dumpling Day. Really cute, you might not want to eat them but you’ll be missing out on a great tasting treat!

Maître Choux

A gleaming glass case that will hold some of the most beautiful eclairs you’ve seen in your life! There’s even a golden dusted beauty, the Chocolate and Hazelnut Treasure, a smooth milk chocolate crème patisserie created with a blend of the finest quality chocolates, a homemade praline from fresh hazelnuts, and bits of roasted almonds for added texture, the outside is coated in a layer of milk chocolate and bits of roasted almonds, and is painted in gold dust for an extra level of flounce. I, of course, went for the leopard print éclair, Arabica Coffee infused silken crème patisserie filling in a crispy choux shell and of course that leopard print chocolate shard on top. A good caffeine punch to give you the get you through the remain spots!

Wheelcake Island

Nestled in the bustling Old Spitalfields market is a stand serving delicious Taiwanese Wheel Cakes! What are wheel cakes I hear you ask,  similar to sandwiched pancakes, with a crisp waffle-like exterior. The fillings range from matcha custard, Azuki bean paste, Oreo, creamy custard with gooey melted milk chocolate.

I loved the special flavour that weekend which was Brown Sugar Boba, chewy tapioca pearls in a molasses syrup with creamy custard. The stuff of dreams! And in the summer months, you might bee lucky enough to try sandwiched with ice cream, with flavours like Lychee, to cool you down.

Soft Serve Society Ice Cream

Set in the cool Boxpark part of town, and as it says in the name, serving up soft serve ice creams with a whole host of crazy toppings and flavours. I went for the What’s Popping? Soft vanilla ice cream, sweet and salty popcorn, pocky and dark chocolate sauce. Great level of saltiness to balance the sweetness and plenty of crunch! Guaranteed to put a smile on your face for the rest of the week. Also, make sure you try the Cloud 9, vanilla ice cream, berry candyfloss, pocky, strawberry crunch, strawberry sauce and popping candy for some extra fun!

Snowflake Ice Cream

Ready for peak millennial food, the Avo-lato, yep a gelato made out of avocado and then made to look like an avocado. Fresh avocados are scooped (with their shells kept intact!), then pureed with a hint of lemon, before being churned into a super cream sorbetto. Then the sorbetto is filled into the avocado skins, space is hollowed out to make room for a nut butter ice cream ‘stone’. Visually really effective, this creamy gelato has a clean flavour, slightly grassy note. One for true avo fans!

Kova Patisserie

Nestled on a side street in Soho, we settled in to share two delicious desserts at this Japanese patisserie. Japanese Souffle Cheesecake and the Chocolate Mille Crepes. Both impressive slices of desserts.

The cheesecake was lighter than air, with a satisfying bouncy and glossy top. The Mille Crepes was crazy, thin layers of crepes sandwiching the lightest and richest chocolate mousse. Of course, a Dirty Milk Boba Tea is also needed, brown sugar boba pearls, black tea, milk and double cream to round off the decadent drink!

Gelupo Gelato

I’ve written earlier about a wonderful trip across the road to Bocca di Lupo for all the savoury Italian treats and it’s only fair to share it’s beautiful sister literally across the road. Gelupo is serving up some of the finest gelatos in London. In traditional pozzetti containers, rather than piled in mounds, is a treasure trove of flavours waiting to be discovered. Such as Fresh Mint Stracciatella, not a patch on your usual mint choc chip, Roast Plum Sorbetti, Panettone and my favourite that I tried, Ricotta and Sour Cherry. Lavishly creamy studded with sour nuggets of cherry cutting through the richness giving a tart fruit hit. From October to the New year, while the white truffles are in season, they do a special, Ricotta and white truffle gelato. Made using the finest white truffles from Alba, Piedmont and shaven into the ricotta gelato base, wowser. I could happily sit here and work through all the flavours with an espresso.

Blondies Kitchen

Representing all good things, Blondies Kitchen makes magic with cookie dough, this summer I got to try their Hot Cookie Dough with Frosties Ice Cream, fluffy, gooey, crispy, chocolatey cookie dough and insane ice cream with a delicious corn sugary flavour. AND with extra Frosties on top. Head to Selfridges to try a collaboration they did with the previously mentioned Snowflake gelato, all the cookie dough and Coco Pop Ice Cream!

Fuwa Fuwa

Tried at Taste of London in the summer,  the first Japanese Soufflé Pancake Café in London. A plate of cloud jiggling pancakes. Served with honeycomb butter, whipped cream and syrup. Lighter than air and with an airy souffléd middles with a slightly caramelised sides. A must-try for all pancake lovers!
